Construction of campus for 2,500 students will begin immediately
Skanska has landed a £33m contract to design and construct a new 2,500 place campus for South Essex College.
Construction of Thurrock Campus will begin immediately and is expected to be complete in time for students to move in in the summer of 2014.
Skanska will build a campus covering 15,000m2, which will include one three storey and one four storey college building.
The contractor is aiming to achieve BREEAM Excellent rating by incorporating elements including rainwater harvesting, air source heat pumps and solar PV panels.
Paul Heather, managing director of Skanska Building London & South East, said: “We have successfully delivered a number of world-class education facilities across Essex in recent years and this has enabled to bring together a wealth of experience, skills and expertise to this project.
“The development of the new Thurrock Campus will provide excellent facilities for the students, teaching staff and the wider community and we are proud to be part of creating this key learning environment”.
