Firms preferred-bidders for Bradford and Calderdale Waste Treatment project
Contractor Skanska has been appointed preferred bidder for the £170m Bradford and Calderdale Waste Treatment project PPP.
Work on the local-authority led project is expected to take three years from the achievement of planning permission, and will be undertaken on a 50/50 engineering, procurement and construction joint-venture between Skanska UK and consultant Aecom.
Once construction is complete, Waste Recycling Group will operate the facility for 25 years.
Skanska said the “resource recovery facility” would accept and process all residual waste and recyclable materials from both local authority areas at the plant, which will be located in Bradford.
“The remaining waste will then be thermally treated in the energy recovery plant producing electricity that is to be fed to the National Grid,” it added.
Skanska said the deal was likely to reach financial close later this year, when it would reveal its investment in the project.
