Irish-owned contractor picks up Kickstart-funded London regeneration scheme
John Sisk & Son has won a £47.9 million contract to build a mixed use retail and residential scheme in Rathbone Market in Newham, east London.
Sisk has been contracted to deliver the full design and construction of Plot One, which will provide 271 apartments within four buildings. The buildings will comprise high-rise blocks of 21 storeys, 12 storeys, eight storeys and six storeys. Retail units, car parking and associated office suites and landscaping also form part of the contract.
A ground breaking ceremony was held on 8 December with completion due in August 2012.
The contract marks the first phase of a housing regeneration project in Rathbone Market, one of 16 Kickstart housing schemes in London that escaped the axe following the £450 million cut in funding at the Homes and Communities Agency (HCA) after the general election.
Rathbone Market is one of six developments in the UK being delivered as part of a public-private partnership by English Cities Fund, a joint venture of the HCA, Muse Developments and Legal & General.
