The former plant’s 25m-tall grain silos will be converted into a boutique hotel
EPR Architects’ proposals for the redevelopment of the former Shredded Wheat factory in Welwyn Garden City have been approved.
The scheme will deliver 850 new homes in the town’s centre as well as converting the original – now listed – 1920’s Shredded Wheat Factory buildings into new office space, retail units and a crèche. The former plant’s 25m-tall grain silos will be converted into a boutique hotel.
An key part of the masterplan for the 20-acre site is the restoration of the modernist production buildings, and a new publicly-accessible formal garden space will also feature.
Financial details of the development were not disclosed.
