This theatre for Dumfries has won planning permission to replace Scotland's oldest working theatre.

The council accepted that the £7m building, designed by RMJM, would contribute more than the listed 1792 Theatre Royal building. An outer wrapping of steel cladding is to be etched with poems and texts that light up at night. Inside are two theatre spaces, a youth media centre, a bar and a restaurant. The client is Dumfries Theatre Royal Trust, with RMJM as architect and structural and services engineer and Turner & Townsend as QS.
