Consultant provides QS and employer’s agent services for affordable homes and care home
Consultant Rider Levett Bucknall will provide QS and employer’s agent services for a scheme to provide affordable homes and an extra care home at Newcastle Great Park, one of the largest developments in the region.
They are being constructed by local builder Whelan Construction.
The project involves the development of 40 extra care apartments which will incorporate a restaurant, hairdressers and laundry facilities.
It will also include the construction of 42 affordable homes for rent over two apartment blocks with retail units underneath.
The 1200-acre site is three miles from Newcastle city centre and is a sustainable urban development with a strong focus on community spirit and healthy lifestyle.
RLB has a long standing relationship with both Newcastle Great Park consortium partners Persimmon and Taylor Wimpey and has provided advice to the consortium since 2005.
It has helped develop the overall master plan, business park offices, and infrastructure extensions.
Mark Sexton, project manager, said: “The scale of Newcastle Great Park is immense and it is very exciting to be a member of a team delivering a project that encompasses such a mix of uses in an extensive landscaped environment.”
Newcastle Great Park is developing the project for the Registered Social Landlord Cheviot Homes.
The scheme is scheduled to complete in autumn 2009.
