The RICS is to enter a partnership with construction charity BuildAid to improve its disaster management services.

The initiative will address the gap between immediate relief after a disaster and long-term reconstruction goals, a problem that was highlighted by an RICS inquiry last year.

BuildAid will aim to raise the money and the RICS will provide expertise and staff.

Karen Gardham, RICS deputy director, said: “The primary human resource will be from the industry, with finance from the industry and beyond.”

The partnership will be officially launched at Mipim in March. A rapid-response unit is envisaged after staff have been trained.
