Work to wrap up next sumer
Red Construction has landed an £8m deal to makeover a brutalist office block in Holborn.
The existing six storey block in Bleeding Heart Yard, a small square close to Hatton Garden, will be overhauled with an Edwardian-style facade, period windows and a roof extension providing two extra storeys.
A full height extension with a street-level covered walkway will also be built facing the square at the rear of the building, adding a further 1,037sq m of office space to the building’s 2,340m2 of existing floorspace.
Designed by architect Groupwork + Amin Taha for developer Seaforth Land, the scheme will bring the 1970s building into line with the square’s existing period buildings.
On the project team is project manager Avison Young, QS Quantem, structural engineer Atelier One, M&E consultant Webb Yates and planning consultant Tibbalds.
Work is expected to complete in summer 2021.
Red was appointed to complete a troubled £8m revamp of Angel Central shopping centre in Islington in June.
That job is expected to complete by November this year after grinding to a halt when original contractor Simons fell into administration in autumn 2019.
