Football club publishes plans for stadium and homes on brownfield site at Old Oak Common
Queens Park Rangers Football club has launched plans for a massive regeneration scheme at Old Oak Common.
The club outlined plans to build 24,000 homes and a 40,000 seat football stadium across hundreds of acres of brownfield land at the site.
QPR has appointed architects Farrells, Populus and CZWG to work up designs for the scheme. Consultant EC Harris is also working on the project.
Old Oak Common has been singled out by the Mayor of London Boris Johnson as a area ripe for regeneration because of the Crossrail interchange that is being built there.
The plans are currently open to public consultation.
Tony Fernandes, chair of QPR, said the club wanted to create a “new destination” for London.
He added: “Our new 40,000 seat stadium will become a focal point hosting not just football, but other entertainment and community activities for residents and visitors to enjoy.
“This will give us a top quality stadium that will be able to cater for QPR’s needs as the club progresses and grows over the years ahead. We are very excited about being the driving force behind creating one of the best new urban places in the world, and making this our new home.
“There are many local benefits that will arise out of the regeneration of the Old Oak area, including new homes, new jobs and a much improved local environment.”
