Pritzker Prize-winning architect Zaha Hadid has won the competition to design London’s Olympic aquatics centre for the 2012 Olympics. The centre will be built even if London is not selected to host the 2012 Games. The most striking feature of Hadid’s plans for the 20,000-seat venue is its sinuous S-shaped roof. The proposed location is a brownfield site in Carpenters Road, Stratford, east London. Hadid is working with engineer Arup and pool architect S&P Rogers.
