Tramlink consortium to build new extension to city’s tram system
Nottingham City Council has selected the Vinci-led Tramlink consortium as the preferred bidder to build an extension to the city’s tram network.
Tramlink is set to be awarded the contract over Arrow Connect, current operator of the existing tram.
The announcement comes after the government confirmed funding for the project following a review by the council to cut costs.
Once completed the tram system will extend to Chilwell and Clifton.
Construction is expected to begin in the autumn with the new lines scheduled to open in 2014.
Jane Todd, chief executive with Nottingham City Council, said: “We received two very strong bids but Tramlink Nottingham has come out on top.
“We look forward to working with them to develop their proposals before awarding the full contract.”
Roger Harrison, chairman of Tramlink Nottingham, said: “Building on Arrow’s successful legacy, we are excited to be taking forward the next chapter in Nottingham’s tram story.
“Our focus now will be on working with Nottingham City Council to ensure NET Phase Two can be introduced at the earliest opportunity.”
