Influential environmental leader takes up directorship at contractor
Jonathon Porritt, chairman of the UK Sustainable Development Commission, has been appointed non-executive director for the Willmott Dixon Group. It is the first time the green campaigner, a former director of Friends of the Earth, has taken a formal position within a construction company.
Willmott Dixon has a target of achieving carbon neutrality and sending zero construction waste to landfill by 2012. Porritt said: “The zero carbon one is going to be tough because they’re talking about direct impact – that’s going to be quite a story. But the point about strict targets is that they are achievable.”
Porritt will take up the post in January.
