Hopkins submits plans for client Grosvenor for Hyde Park Corner hotel
Hopkins Architects has submitted plans for a major new luxury hotel and apartments on Mayfair’s Hyde Park Corner.
Joint clients Grosvenor and The Hong Kong and Shanghai Hotels are behind the plans.
Construction is expected to start in summer 2017 on the 190-room Peninsula London hotel, which will be located next door to the newly refurbished The Lanesborough hotel at 1-5 Grosvenor Place.
The proposed building replaces the existing 1960s offices a include 24-28 residential apartments with a leisure and spa facility and separate entrance on Halkin Street.
The plans submitted to Westminster City council also include the development of a public realm in Grosvenor Place designed by BDP.
Peter Vernon, chief executive of Grosvenor Britain & Ireland said: “The development is sensitive to its surroundings, sustainable and will support around 2,800 jobs in the wider economy. It will enhance the West End’s reputation as one of the world’s foremost places to visit and a driving force for the UK economy.”
