Vote later this afternoon could put Blackpool back in the running as super-casino venue
Plans for the UK’s first super-casino in Manchester could be halted later today as peers and MPs are expected to vote against them after Blackpool controversially lost out on the bid.
Dozens of Labour rebels are expected to join forces with conservative MPs opposing the plans in the House of Commons this evening.
Manchester was a surprise winner in the race for the super-casino coming in ahead of favourites Blackpool and the Dome. The MPs and peers will be voting against the Manchester casino along with 16 others planned across the country.
If they successfully vote against the casinos then all plans will be sent back to the drawing board.
Joan Humble, Labour MP for Blackpool North and Fleetwood said: “The government should be aware that what we want is an opportunity for Blackpool’s bid to be properly considered.”
