Lea Valley park to rival London's great parks in size
This is the winning design by architect 5th Studio for a new public park in the Thames Gateway.
The new park, which will stretch from the Olympic site to the Thames, will be centered on the River Lea and will, the practice said, rival in scale London’s great parks. It will also include large new areas of mixed development and infrastructure. The architect said the new park would be “a place of plenty or an edible part of the city, the park will be a major ecological instrument for London.”
5th Studio beat off competition from a strong shortlist including West 8, Witherford Watson Mann, Gillespies, Stock Woolstencroft and The Landscape Partnership.
5th Studio was commissioned for the scheme by the London Thames Gateway Development Corporation and will be working on the project with Landscape architects Latz + Partner. Latz + Partner, Colliers CRE, Leaside Regeneration, The Ecology Partnership, Whitby Bird and Davis Langdon.
