This £130m concert hall by French architect Jean Nouvel is scheduled to open in the Parc de la Villette, in north-east Paris, in 2012.
The Philharmonie de Paris will be clad in aluminium and will resemble a mound of stacked plates topped by a 170ft-high sail. The building will have a 2,400-seat auditorium designed in a “vineyard” style, which means the audience will sit on all sides of the orchestra on multilevel terraces.
