Peter Westland will head the School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment
Nottingham Trent University has appointed Peter Westland as the new dean of its School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment. He replaces professor Gordon Kennedy who left the university earlier this year.
Westland was formerly assistant dean for external affairs at Sheffield Hallam University, with responsibility for regional, national and international business development opportunities.
With a BSc (Hons) in Building Technology, Westland initially began working as a surveyor for the London Borough of Southwark before becoming senior surveyor for property consultant Elliot Son and Boyton. He then set up his own practice in 1988, managing projects for both private and public sector clients.
In 1991 Westland became a lecturer on the built environment programme at Sheffield Hallam, progressing to head of division in architecture, construction and surveying, and then to assistant dean.
During this time he obtained an MBA, and published several research papers on the environmental impact of the construction industry.
Westland is a fellow of the RICS, a member of the CIOB and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
