Funding confirmed for phase two extension of Nottingham’s tram network
The government has confirmed funding for a scheme to extend Nottingham’s tram network after a review by the council to cut costs.
Construction on the extensions to Chilwell and Clifton could begin by the end of the year.
Two consortia led by Tramlink Nottingham and Arrow Connect are vying for the project. The preferred bidder for the scheme could be announced as early as next week.
Nottingham City Council chief executive said: “This is a very positive development. We have worked hard with the government to ensure that Phase Two is delivered as cost effectively as possible.
“A preferred bidder will now be appointed in the very near future who will work with the council to finalise contracts, which will hopefully be signed later in the summer.”
