Transport minister tells fringe meeting priority will be public transport not new roads

Liberal democrat transport minister Norman Baker said the current review of future capital spending on transport would ultimately see a higher priority given to funding public transport projects as opposed to new road schemes.

Baker told a Liberal Democrat conference fringe meeting that the DfT would change the criteria schemes were judged under, with a higher value given to carbon emissions.
