HSE warns hospitals of their responsibility after patient forces window open
The Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Trust has been fined a total of £14,000 and ordered to pay costs following an HSE prosecution.
The charges relate to a case from 4 August 2005, when a 30 year old male with mental health problems was seriously injured after "defeating" a restrictor on the window and subsequently fell from the first floor.
HSE Division director for the North West David Ashton said “The injuries to the patient were entirely avoidable. There are sensible and simple steps that the Trust should have taken to prevent this accident from happening which have been available for many years.”
