Queen recognises several prominent figures in construction and housebuilding in New Year honours list
The Queen gave awards to major construction, housing and property figures in the 2008 New Year honours list.
Graham Watts, chief executive of the Construction Industry Council, was awarded an OBE for services to the construction industry while Adrian Wyatt, chief executive of Quintain, received the same award for services to the property industry.
Liz Peace, chief executive of the British Property Federation was awarded a CBE for services to the property industry.
Stewart Milne, chairman and chief executive of the Stewart Milne Group and best-paid director in the construction industry last year, was awarded a CBE for services to the housebuilding industry in Scotland.
John Sorrell, chairman of Cabe, the Sorrell Foundation and the London Design Festival, was knighted for services to the creative industries as was Network Rail’s chairman, Ian McAllister, for his services to transport.
A further OBE went to Barbara Thorndick, chief executive of West Kent Housing Association for her contribution to social housing
Professor Christine Hawley, dean of The Bartlett and head of the faculty of the built environment, UCL, also received a CBE for services to architectural education.
An MBE went to the National Trust’s deputy head of building, David Shelley, for his contribution to heritage.
