Work is due to start on Mecanoo-designed theatre in 2016
A new theatre and arts centre in Oldham by Dutch architects Mecanoo has been submitted for planning.
The scheme, which involves relocating the Oldham Coliseum theatre, went to the council’s planners on Tuesday. A decision on the project, expected to cost around £10m, is due early next year, with construction expected to commence in 2016.
The project involves the re-use and extension of an existing grade II-listed former library building and the construction of a new linked theatre with a Heritage Centre and a public space in the Library Gardens.
