Developer BARWA poised to reveal megaproject in Al Kohr, 50km north of Doha

Barwa Al Kohr, has said it will build a new city development in Qatar.

The developer is being cagey about the specific makeup of the development, but it promises “a mega eco-friendly project” in Al Kohr. made up of “residential, commercial and touristic developments”. A launch event is expected at the beginning of November.

Al Kohr, 50km north of Doha, is one of the fastest-growing cities in the world and numerous energy companies have set up their Qatari headquarters there, including Shell, Dolphin Energy, Qatargas and RasGas LNG production facilities.

Barwa said Qatar would have construction projects totalling $82.5bn by 2010, said Barwa. The Qatari Urban Planning and Development Authority is encouraging development through its Qatar 2025 plan.
