Government also announces £500,000 pilot fund for households vulnerable to flooding
The government has published guidance on minimising flooding in new buildings.
The guide spells out how buildings in flood risk areas should be constructed. Entitled Improving the flood performance of new buildings: Flood resilient construction it advises on the most suitable materials and methods to be used.
Last week, the government also announced a pilot £500,000 fund for householders who are vulnerable to flooding. Payments will be paid to make homes more resistant with the fund capped at £5000 per household.
The Environment Agency is in the process of choosing suitable areas in which to implement the pilot scheme.
Ten percent of England’s housing stock and population is in flood risk areas, with experts predicting that global warming could see a sharp increase in the prevalence of flooding.
