Work may be carried out at 12 major stations
Network Rail is considering undertaking construction work to ease overcrowding at 12 major stations including London Charing Cross, London Victoria and Liverpool Lime Street.
Network Rail’s Route Utilisation Strategy (RUS) considers planning issues that require a network-wide perspective and has recommended works be carried out at the stations to address overcrowding by 2019.
The stations earmarked for intervention by 2019 are Basingstoke, Bristol Parkway, Clapham Junction, Earlsfield, Liverpool Central, Liverpool Lime Street, London Charing Cross, London Fenchurch Street, London Victoria, Preston, Surbiton and Wimbledon.
A spokesperson for Network Rail said: “It’s likely that works on these stations will be put out to tender.”
