News International is to relocate its printing facilities across the UK leaving its Wapping site ripe for development.

Rupert Murdoch is to close his printing plant at Wapping and invest £600m in new production plants in Enfield, Glasgow and Knowsley, near Liverpool.

The move by News International will open up the redevelopment of Wapping although the editorial offices of newspapers such as The Sun and The Times will remain on the site.

News International is hoping to offset the cost of new facilities by using the surplus land at Wapping for residential and commercial office space.
