London tower builder sets out targets over next few years
Multiplex has signed up to the World Green Building Council’s Net Zero Carbon Buildings Commitment making it the first contractor in the world to do so.
The firm spelt out its sustainability plans in its latest Positive Impact report for Europe.
It wants to be first European contractor to have a carbon reduction target aligned with limiting climate change to 1.5 degrees, while it is also rolling out a new wellbeing standard called ‘Better Workspaces’ for its temporary construction offices and welfare facilities based on the WELL Building Standard.
It has also designed and piloted piloting female-specific personal protective equipment, introduced new parental leave policies and hosted a LGBT networking event at the 22 Bishopsgate project.
The firm’s safety, health, environment and quality director Stephen Smith said: “We have put sustainability at the heart of our business strategy, making it intrinsic to our offering across all projects.”
Multiplex is expected to finish work on the 22 Bishopsgate tower in the City of London next month.
