A report on the work of the sector skills council for construction was due to be approved by parliament as Building went to press.
The annual report of quango ConstructionSkills sets out four aims for the industry:
- To minimise skills gaps, particularly in specialist areas and management
- To raise the number of work placements
- To recruit from a more diverse pool of talent
- To improve the industry’s record on sustainability and innovation.
It also calls on the government to increase funding for training. Meanwhile, the Cross-Industry Task Force on Apprenticeship Numbers is considering creating a business plan to show major contractors how they can train apprentices in the supply chain.
