UK firm hired on three of six design and build contracts on 5km-long Marina Coastal Expressway
Mott MacDonald has been appointed design consultant on a highway project in Singapore.
The firm said it has secured a role on three of six design and build contracts on the 5km Marina Coastal Expressway, almost 4km of which will be underground.
More than 13ha of land reclamation will be carried out to build the road, which will link new developments in Marina Bay to the rest of the island.
You Fook-Hin, Mott MacDonald’s representative in Singapore, said: “We are delighted to be working on this important project. This appointment follows our earlier work on the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway and offers a real opportunity to demonstrate our expertise and experience in this area.”
But he added that construction could be “a challenge”, explaining: “Part of the tunnel runs under the seabed 150m from the Marina barrage, which needs to be opened at times to allow water to flow out.”
