Morrison Construction deliver Lee Valley White Water Centre 18 months before London Games’ opening ceremony
The canoe slalom course for London 2012 has been completed by Morrison Construction, on budget and over 18 months before the games begin.
The ten hectare site is the first Olympic venue to be completed, containing a 300m competition course and facilities building.
Before and after 2012 the venue will be used for competitions, training and as a sporting and leisure facility for canoeing and white water rafting.
Lee Valley White Water Centre will be open to the public from April 2011.
The venue was opened by HRH Princess Royal. A number of Team GB canoeists attended to try out the course for the first time.
Seb Coe, chair of the London 2012 organising committee said: “With the centre open to the public before and after the action at Games time, it really does demonstrate the great legacy that London 2012 will leave for users, from elite athletes to kids from local communities.”
