Building in Glasgow will house 1,250 pupils alongside 300 seat replacement venue for Cumbernauld Theatre 

Morrison Construction has started work on the new £37m Cumbernauld Academy and Theatre campus in Glasgow.

The premises on South Kildrum Ring Road, which will measure 13,903 sqm over three storeys, is due for completion in 2019 and will have capacity for 1,250 pupils. In addition there will be a 300 seat replacement venue built for the current Cumbernauld Theatre.

Cumbernauld Academy, which was formed following the merger of Cumbernauld and Abronhill high schools in August 2014, currently houses around 980 pupils.

Once construction work is completed on the new building, this will be demolished to make way for new external sports facilities.
