Work on West Yorkshire station now due to start in 2021
Morgan Sindall has been appointed to carry out the £17m redevelopment and expansion of Bradford Forster Square station in West Yorkshire.
While Forster Square station was originally due to be finished in March 2021, and despite the appointment of a contractor, work is now not expected to start until next year.
Delays to the scheme were revealed in a local authority report early last year saying it was due to a “shortage of resources”.
The redevelopment will include a new station building, lift and staircase tower to Cheapside and Manor Row.
The new, larger building will incorporate the arches behind the station and provide a new cafe, information centre, new toilets and seating, parking for 75 cars and a community garden.
According to Bradford council, who held public consultations back in December 2017, the scheme aims to create better access to the city centre and the nearby Broadway shopping centre.
The redevelopment is part of plans for four major transport schemes in Bradford city centre, including Bradford Interchange.
