Morgan Sindall has won a £14.7m a landmark sustainable centre for the University of Essex’s business school
The three-storey BDP-designed building will bring the business school, which is currently spread across six buildings, under one central roof.
The 5,500m2 building is designed to achieve a BREEAM rating of Excellent and will include a ‘green’ sedum roof, solar panels, and an EPDM biome panelled roof similar to that used in the Eden Project.
The building will also include a winter garden, which will act as an environmental buffer zone, supporting the passive ventilation and heating strategy of the three-storey building while also providing an attractive central gathering space.
The project is due to be completed in early Summer 2014.
