St Thomas primary's new building will be raised on stilts to counter flood risk
Manchester City Council has made Morgan Ashurst its construction partner for the £6.8m development of a school on stilts in Lower Crumpsall.
The 230m2, steel-framed two-storey new school building for St Thomas primary school will be located opposite the school's existing site in Waterloo Road. It will be raised on stilts in order to minimise the one in 100-year risk of flooding at the site.
As well as the main building there will be a new library, ICT room, classrooms, kitchen, dining area, recreation hall and staff room.
Construction work is expected to be completed in August 2009.
