Housing minister Yvette Cooper gave a further indication last week the government is responding to Building's successful campaign to reform the Building Regulations.
Speaking at an Environment Audit Select Committee, she admitted the regulations were confusing and the ODPM needed to adopt a more efficient approach.
She said: "The way we do Building Regulations needs to be improved. Currently, you have an alphabet basis with continual updates to different parts of the regulations. Because there is always another part that is about to be updated, you get less compliance and therefore we need an approach that is more systematic and consistent rather than the incremental one."
Cooper also indicated that future changes to the regulations would feed into the Code for Sustainable Homes.
