Miller has won a £300m PFI job to build a housing scheme for the elderly in North Tyneside
Miller Construction, as part of the consortium Solutions for North Tyneside, has been named as preferred bidder to deliver North Tyneside’s Quality Homes for Older People PFI project.
The £300m partnership will build more than 900 apartments across 10 new and 16 refurbished sheltered housing schemes.
Solutions for North Tyneside, a consortium comprising Miller Construction, Equitix and Keepmoat, will carry out the refurbishment and construction work and will also be responsible for the cleaning, repair and maintenance over the 28 year contract.
Chris Webster, Miller Construction chief executive, said: “We are delighted to have been selected as preferred bidder for this significant project in North Tyneside.
“We have established ourselves as a quality contractor in the area and are looking forward to delivering first class sheltered accommodation for the residents of North Tyneside.
“In addition to being the largest housing project in the region over the next three years, this project has a number of key community benefits attached to it, including creating up to 500 jobs for the region.
It is expected work will start on site in September and all the schemes will be completed by autumn 2016.
