Procurement process for £431m bridge to begin soon
Potential contractors for the Mersey Gateway project have met with project leaders during an industry day event in Halton.
A total of 130 delegates attended the event at Stobart Stadium as part of a consultation programme which finishes today.
Congestion on the existing Silver Jubilee Bridge is set to ease considerably when the £431 million pound bridge is constructed.
The procurement process will begin once details of an agreed funding package with the Department of Transport are confirmed.
Spanning 1.5km (0.9 miles), the bridge will also be part funded through toll charging.
Steve Nicholson, director of the Mersey Gateway project, said:
“This event was about us talking and listening to major suppliers from the UK and Europe that have the capability to be part of the main contracting organisation we are seeking for Mersey Gateway.
“We were delighted by the level of interest shown and very encouraged by the quality of organisations that attended.”
