Developer puts Croydon project on hold after council recommends it be refused permission
Developer Menta has withdrawn its application for its £500m Cherry Orchard Road in Croydon, following the council official's decision to recommend it be refused planning permission.
The Make Architects-designed scheme was to have contained four tower blocks of up to 35 storeys and include homes, offices and shops.
Craig Marks said “We are very disappointed that after a lengthy pre-application and consultation process, during which we did everything we could to meet the council's objectives for this important location, the council did not feel able to support the application at this late stage in the process. This left us with no option but to withdraw.
Marks said he would continue to work with the council to establish a way forward for the scheme. He said: “In particular we will be interested to see what may emerge during the East Croydon Masterplanning initiative, of which we are a part, to unlock this important site and deliver equivalent regeneration outputs to the proposals we have brought forward.”
