Contractor Alfred McAlpine has won a £50m maintenance contract at four of BAA’s seven UK airports.

McAlpine will provide mechanical, electrical and building fabric maintenance services at Gatwick, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Southampton airports.

The company has initially been appointed for a period of five years and it has agreed a partnering framework with BAA.

BAA has hired McAlpine to reduce costs associated with its property at those airports, and to improve the performance of its assets.

The two companies have been working together for more than 15 years at Edinburgh and Glasgow airports, where McAlpine has provided engineering services.

In April, McAlpine was appointed by Leeds council on a £40m contract to complete the Yorkshire city’s inner ring road.

Shares in McAlpine jumped 9p to 369.25p last Friday, after it announced the BAA contract win.
