Boris Johnson says city academies will offer 'vocational discipline'
The Mayor of London has announced plans to sponsor and open 10 new city academies in the next four years.
Speaking at the Conservative Party Conference, Johnson said he would unveil plans for the new schools in his 'youth strategy' proposals in November.
Of the schools, he said: "I hope they will offer an educational and vocational discipline that is lacking in so many of our schools. We don't believe it's the superglue to fix our society, broken, chipped, cracked, mildly fractured but it's a start."
Johnson also pledged to stage an Olympics "every bit as spectacular as Beijing", but within the £9.3bn budget set out by the government.
He said: "You will hear the roar of the crowd as they approve the achievements of British athletes – or possibly the Mayor opening the Games."
