Culture minister steps down from government in Cabinet reshuffle

Barbara Follett has replaced Margaret Hodge as culture minister following Gordon Brown's Cabinet reshuffle.

Follett, previously minister for the east of England and parliamentary secretary for equality, will take over the culture brief, which includes architecture and heritage.

Hodge has courted controversy among architects since taking up the post in July last year, most famously for her decision not to list east London housing estate Robin Hood Gardens.

She is said to be leaving government in order to spend more time with her family.
