Jestico + Whiles-designed scheme will comprise new and old buildings

Mansell Construction Services have been appointed to work on an £18m government-funded redevelopment of Thetford Academy in Norfolk, designed by Jestico + Whiles.

The predominantly new build scheme will accommodate up to 2,050 pupils and is due for completion in September 2013.

The development comprises sports pitches, outdoor games facilities, sports halls and an outdoor amphitheatre. It will move the academy from its current two sites to one comprising both new and refurbished buildings.

Jude Harris, Jestico + Whiles’ associate director, said: “We are delighted to still be securing projects with contractors based on the quality of design, even in these times of reduced budgets and accelerated programmes.”

A planning application is due to be submitted next month.
