The iconic street will be recreated at a new home in MediaCityUK in Salford
Global construction and consultancy firm Mace will shortly begin work on Coronation Street’s new home at MediaCityUK in Salford.
Over the next 18 months Mace will manage the re-creation of the famous street in Trafford, two miles down the road from its current studio location on Manchester’s Quay Street.
The company will have to replicate the old facility seamlessly for die-hard fans not to notice a change of set.
Mace director Steve Gillingham said: “There are unique, logistical and construction challenges in moving the UK’s most iconic street and all of the operational facilities that have become home to the soap over the last 50 years.
“The sympathetic recreation of the Street and the provision of new and 21st century facilities for actors and production staff is at once a challenging design and construction task but also one that affords Mace a chance to deliver what will become one of the most viewed and talked about projects of the next 50 years.”
Kevin Lygo, managing director at ITV Studios said: “Our move to MediaCityUK is an historic one that will continue our commitment to the North, ensuring our longevity as the major programme maker in the region and make us a crucial part of Europe’s biggest media population. It is a very exciting time”.
