Consultant Mace has presented a feasibility study for a Russian bid for the 2014 Winter Olympics to President Vladimir Putin.
The city of Sochi, on the Black Sea coast of the Caucasus, is bidding for the Games, as is Pyeongchang in Korea and Salzburg in Austria.
Mace has evaluated all construction aspects of the Russian bid to determine the deliverability of the programme.
The areas studied included the Olympic Park, all ice venues and the alpine venues. The information was presented to the International Olympic Committee evaluation commission in Sochi.
Mace’s report confirmed that Russia is well prepared to manage the Games. The report concludes: “The delivery values of the venues and infrastructure for the 2014 Games is achievable.” The 280-page report will be issued to the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and full details will remain confidential until an IOC report is published in early June.
A final decision on the winner of the bid will be made on 4 July.
