Architect Frederick Gibberd Partnership has recently completed a £13.5m mental health unit at Charing Cross Hospital for the West London Mental Health NHS Trust. A key design feature is the triple-height atrium that floods the new ground-floor cafe with natural light. The 88-bed unit includes a 16-bed intensive care ward, four other wards and a day hospital. The building also houses research facilities for Imperial College. Geoffrey Osborne was contractor, James Nisbet & Partners was QS, Symonds Group was project manager, Hyder Consulting was structural engineer and Hoare Lea did the M&E work.
