Work on £6m deal set to start later this year
Leeds firm GMI Construction has been appointed to build a new £6m community stadium for the Sheffield Olympic Legacy Park.
The 4,000-seat venue, which is designed by Whittam Cox Architects, will contain an artificial pitch and will also incorporate 4,141m² of mixed-use commercial space.
GMI will be joined by engineer Arup and is carrying out work for developer Scarborough International Properties (SIP), who will also operate the stadium on behalf of the city council.
The £120m-turnover contractor will begin work in December, while SIP is developing detailed proposals for the first buildings of the wider park, starting with a cluster adjacent to the community stadium.
Construction of the next phase of buildings is planned to start by the second quarter of 2020.
