The KSS-designed Elland Road redevelopment will include retail facilities and a nightclub
Councillors in Leeds have resolved to grant full planning permission to a £60m scheme to extend and redevelopment Leeds’ Elland Road football ground.
The scheme, designed by architects KSS, is designed to provide facilities that will support the football club, with two hotels, retail facilities, club shop, restaurant and conference and banqueting space. The proposals also include new offices and a basement nightclub.
The scheme, which is being developed by Leeds United FC, will leave the match-day capacity of the stadium the same.
Leeds United now just has to resolve outstanding issues before receiving full planning permission for the scheme, which is linked in to the regeneration of the wider eland Road area.
Shaun Harvey, chief executive of Leeds United FC said that by increasing non-match day income streams at Elland Road, the development would support and supplement the club's efforts on the pitch. He said: ”It will play a vital part in the regeneration of the area, and will also create opportunities for local people."
James Budd, associate director at KSS said he was “delighted” the scheme had received approval. He said: “We had to match closely the development aspirations of the Club with those of Leeds council to achieve planning approval. The building massing constraints negotiated with the Council, an architectural design that responded and contributed positively to the existing stadium and phased delivery capability were all key components.”
