Schemes worth £5.1m are to be built at educational institutions in Basingstoke and Brighton
The Leadbitter Group has been awarded two construction contracts, worth a total of £5.1m, to design and build two sports centres in the education sector.
The projects will take place at Falmer Campus, a part of the University of Brighton, and Bishop Challoner secondary school, in Basingstoke. Both contracts are scheduled for completion in autumn 2010.
The £1.5m project at Bishop Challoner School is already underway, where plans have been set in place to build a sports hall four times the size of the original school gym. Meanwhile, at Falmer Campus, the £3.5m contract to build a sports hall with dance studios and a gymnasium has been scheduled to commence this month.
In addition to these projects, Leadbitter has recently completed the first phase of a multi-million pound contract to design and build extensive sports facilities at University College Plymouth.
Bob Rendell, Leadbitter’s chief executive, said the projects “meet the challenge of enabling young people to be more active” and added that the schools can use the sports halls “as an important source of revenue out of school hours”.
