Work at Sunderland’s Bridges shopping centre involves creation of a three-storey Primark
Land Securities, owner of Sunderland’s Bridges shopping centre, has appointed Morgan Sindall for a £15m extension.
The work will include building a three-storey, 60,000ft2 Primark store - twice the size of the existing one - and creating a new entrance to improve the appearance of Sunderland’s High Street West.
Work on the site is scheduled to begin this month and finish in July 2012, creating around 150 jobs.
Jonathan Buckle, portfolio manager for the Bridges, said: “It’s great to see work starting on site and we’re very excited about the transformation we’re going to see over the coming months.
”We’ve worked hand-in-hand with Sunderland council to ensure we proposed a viable extension strategy and I can’t wait to see our ideas take shape. What’s more we’ll be bringing cranes back to the skyline of Sunderland City Centre and creating much needed jobs for the local economy.”
