Joint venture with Bachy Soletanche will help build link to Chinese high speed rail network
Laing O’Rourke and engineering contractor Bachy Soletanche have won a £100m joint venture to build tunnels that will help connect Hong Kong to the Chinese high speed rail network.
The contract was awarded by MTR Corporation, the operator of Hong Kong’s mass transit system.
The tunnels are part of a 26km line that will run from West Kowloon in Hong Kong to the border with Shenzhen.
Work on the link started in January 2010 and is expected to be finished by 2015.
Mike Robins, Laing O’Rourke’s managing director, Hong Kong, said, “The Express Rail Link project is part of a major investment programme in rail infrastructure in Hong Kong, and we are delighted to be appointed with our partner to one of the initial sections of this complex and challenging rail infrastructure development.”
